HELP’s mission statement:

Our mission is to empower, motivate and encourage disadvantaged youth from low and very low socioeconomic backgrounds. H.E.L.P is a mentorship program that believes in offering real-life success stories, hands-on training, and critical life skills to the younger generation in order to encourage youth to believe in themselves, and pursue their dreams despite the very significant obstacles in their way; to help them obtain good jobs and contribute to their communities.

“A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture, and transform.” – Diane Mariechild

Participant Testimonials

“H.E.L.P feels like a second home to me. I wish it was every day. Y’all are my family.”
– Justice

“H.E.L.P has helped me become more confident in myself and at school, and I’ve realized no matter what I’m going through #NeverGiveUp. What I love most about this program is the dedication and the hands-on training that Lulu gives each of us. I’m looking forward to the next semester.”
 – Zara

“I love coming to H.E.L.P. I wish I could come every day. I would all the way from Richmond “
Ze’Riyah

“Thank you for creating this program for us. I don’t know what I would have been doing with myself after school. I finally found something I like to do. I love the braiding class, teaching us the feed-in (technique) was amazing because now I’m able to practice on my friend’s hair.”
-16 year old Student from San Francisco, CA

“You encouraged me to see that my skin complexion is something I should be proud of. After getting bullied in school for being darker skinned, I started to believe that I was ugly and my confidence was low. But after taking the weaving class and learning how to fix my hair, my self-esteem was boosted.”
